Borrowed a couple of beefy adjustable spanners and managed to loosen the 12-year-rusted locking nuts on the steering rods. As the front wishbone supports have accidentally been welded some 18mm further apart than they're supposed to be, the wheels were pointing outwards like a duck's feet. oops.

The last part of the windscreen support going in. It will also be used to support the steering column so cutting away unnecessary bits was done with some care. The temporary placement is proving tricky because it's not quite straight. Also, the U-joints on the steering are pretty much at their limit, so this is going to be a little tricky.

After reviewing the MSVA document about seat belt supports, and also speaking to my friend, the uprights (marked in red) have to go, and will be replaced by multiple triangular bracing (green). One support is in already (purple). Also this is where the rear seat will go.

Showing from a different angle where the rear seat back will go, and also where the infrastructure for the seat belt load-spreading braces will go. Removing the uprights (marked in red) also has an advantage of providing the rear passenger with a little more elbow room.
