Metal arrived, woo-hoo! Forgot to tell them to cut it into lengths
shorter than 7m. Lucky the barn's big, eh?
After getting through almost half a box of 2.5mm electrodes, it can finally
be said that the welds I'm doing have improved. This one only really needed
a single run: many of the others needed at least three. The secret appears
to be to grind the metal down sufficiently, and also outwards for at least
7mm either side of where the weld line is to go, and the molten metal seems
to spread outwards in ways that look familiar. However, this was done on
top of an existing weld (ground down) where the corners had been filled in.
I've not tried a "new" clean weld yet - spent the morning redoing things
whilst waiting for the metal to arrive.
